Training in the care sector cannot be limited to theory. Skills such as effective communication, safe support, privacy protection and the management of everyday situations need to be understood and applied confidently in practice. 

This is the approach behind the CARE-ABILITY training programme, which is currently being developed to create accessible and meaningful learning pathways for migrant women who wish to strengthen their skills and explore professional opportunities in the social and healthcare sector. 

From knowledge to practice 

CARE-ABILITY is developing a 50-hour training programme, organised into thematic units covering key aspects of care work and professional readiness. 

The project’s approach focuses not only on what learners should know, but mainly on what they should be able to do after completing the training. 

For this reason, the learning material combines theoretical knowledge with practical activities, realistic scenarios, quizzes and assignments. Learners are therefore encouraged to apply what they learn in situations that reflect real-life contexts in the care sector. 

Assessment also goes beyond the simple recall of information. It includes aspects such as communication, safe decision-making, following procedures and professional behaviour. 

Two learning pathways 

The training programme is being developed through two different learning pathways. 

The first is designed for learners, with material that is clear, accessible and practical. 

The second is intended for VET educators and trainers, providing tools that can help them deliver and adapt the programme effectively to the needs of different learner groups. 

In this way, CARE-ABILITY is not only creating learning content, but also a complete framework for its practical implementation. 

EMVIO’s role 

EMVIO leads WP3 of CARE-ABILITY, which focuses on the development of the digital learning platform and the project’s educational resources. 

Within this framework, EMVIO contributes to the coordination of the structure and common standards of the training material, its accessibility and consistency across the different units, and its integration into a functional digital learning environment. 

Particular attention is given to creating a learning experience that can respond to different levels of language proficiency, educational background and digital experience. 

Skills that can be recognised 

The development of the training programme is also an important step towards a broader CARE-ABILITY objective: turning knowledge and experience into clear and recognisable skills. 

Through the learning platform, practical activities and the micro-credentials developed within the project, CARE-ABILITY aims to strengthen the connection between learning, skills recognition and professional progression. 

Because effective vocational education is not only about what we know, but above all about what we can do with that knowledge in practice.
