CARE-ABILITY is a new Erasmus+ project that responds to one of Europe’s pressing social and labour market challenges: the growing demand for skilled professionals in the social and healthcare sectors, alongside the persistent barriers faced by migrant women in accessing education and employment. The project aims to turn this challenge into an opportunity by supporting migrant women to build sustainable careers in caregiving through inclusive, flexible, and digital vocational education.
Many migrant women already possess valuable informal experience in care work but lack access to recognised qualifications, tailored training, or clear pathways into the labour market. CARE-ABILITY addresses these gaps by offering innovative vocational training combined with recognised micro-credentials, helping participants transform existing competences into formal qualifications that improve employability and social inclusion.
At the core of CARE-ABILITY is a modern learning approach that combines digital tools with personalised support. The project develops a modular Training Programme designed for both learners and vocational education and training (VET) professionals, focusing on essential socio-healthcare skills. This programme is supported by an AI-powered Self-Assessment Tool that helps users identify their skills, training needs, and suitable learning pathways. In parallel, an AI-driven gamified learning tool creates engaging and motivating learning experiences, adapting content to individual progress and needs.
Alongside these tools, CARE-ABILITY produces a Best Practices Handbook that gathers evidence-based methods and real examples supporting the effective training and integration of migrant women in the care sector. The handbook serves as a practical resource for VET providers, trainers, and organisations working with diverse learner groups.
The project targets migrant women with informal caregiving experience, unemployed or low-skilled individuals, and those facing language or certification barriers. It also benefits the wider ecosystem of VET institutions, healthcare employers, social organisations, and policymakers by promoting inclusive, workforce-oriented vocational education across Europe.
CARE-ABILITY is implemented by a transnational partnership of universities, VET providers, research centres, and innovation organisations from Spain, Austria, Slovenia, and Greece, working together to strengthen inclusion, employability, and quality training in the care sector.
